Argus Observer wins Eight Awards

SALEM, Ore.

The Oregon Newspaper Publisher's Association recognized the Argus Observer recently with eight awards in seven categories during the first day of the ONPA annual summer convention in Salem, OR.

The Argus received awards for Best Special Section, Best Editorial Page, Best Feature Story: Personality, Best Lifestyle Coverage, Best Local Column, Best Graphics and Best Sports Photo.

Four of the eight awards received by the Argus were for first place for daily newspapers with a circulation less than 10,000.

Those awards included Best Editorial Page by Argus News Editor Jessica Keller and former Editor Pat Caldwell; Best Feature Story: 

Personality by Caldwell; Best Lifestyle Coverage and Best Graphics by former Argus Lifestyle Editor Sean Hart.

The Argus Observer staff was recognized with a second-place award for its Horizons 2009 special edition in the Best Special Section or Issue category. Horizons 2009 focused on the 100th anniversary of the Malheur County Fair.

Hart also received second place in the Best Feature Story: 

Personality category.

Caldwell received third place in the Best Local Column category, as did Argus Sports Editor Scott Ford for Best Sports Photo.
